Character Name: Virginia "Pepper" Potts
Series: Iron Man (Marvel Cinematic Universe)
Age: Approx. 30
From When?: Post Avengers
Inmate/Warden: Pepper would be a Warden, hands down. She's worked as Tony Stark's personal assistant for just over ten years, has been CEO of Stark Industries for about two years- give or take (considering she sort of 'quit' in the end of IM2), and has been remarkably capable in handling her extremely taxing genius of a boss. She takes no shit from anyone, is more than capable of running both a company and babysitting a nearly full-time superhero, with all his semi-suicidal tendencies in the process.
Item: Palm Pilot - Upgraded, so it's more of a holographic touchscreen. Similar to Tony's phone in IM2/Avengers.
Abilities/Powers: Pepper is completely human, in healthy shape. She likely works out in the evenings (read: treadmill and or stepping machine), and rarely drinks on the job. If babysitting Tony Stark and being one of the only people he trusts completely (or nearly) is a power, then sign her down for it. Does running in heels count?
Personality:
Virginia 'Pepper' Potts, is nothing if not professional. A seasoned businesswoman, with more than a little experience in dealing with difficult clients, and all with a smile. Pepper is probably the only woman on the planet, currently, who can go toe to toe with Tony Stark and win an arguementwithout having the law backing her up. But just because she's skilled enough to be Mr. Stark's PA for the last ten plus years, doesn't mean it hasn't come with it's own fallbacks.
Just as she is all Tony has, he is all she has. Pepper is just as dependant on the man himself when it comes to her own life. For Pepper, Tony is literally, the center of her world. Not because that's a cold hard fact, but because it's both her job, and what her heart has decided. A co-dependancy that she handles much better than her boss seems to.
While it does seem like Pepper can handle just about any situation, she does know when to say enough is enough, both when it comes to herself, and for her boss (though the latter of which rarely, if ever, listens). When the stress became too much for her within merely a week of being CEO of Stark Industries, she resigned, knowing full well her own limits and capabilities. She knows more about the company than Tony, in most respects.
There's a firey stubbornness and determination to her as well, which was probably one of the reasons she got the job in the first place. She knows when to put her foot down, when to say no, and sometimes, when to say yes. Her excellent sense of judgement and instinct (aside from staring at a beeping bomb-like android for two minutes) is probably one of the only things keeping her boss out of the line of fire. She handles stress better than most would think (even though she knows when too much is too much).
Though prone to panic and stress overloaded breakdowns, she has a remarkably short recovery time, thoroughly able to snap back to her professional air at the drop of a hat. This, while both something she uses to her advantage, is something of a set back as well. She falls on it when in despair, needing a way to shove her emotions down and deal with what's in front of her, regardless of consequences. Pepper is a terrible liar. Especially to her boss.
But despite all this work-first, pleasure-later, Pepper's heart and morals are always in the right place. She does what's necessary, but if something is wrong, she'll fight against it. When she thought Tony would kill himself trying to do what he was doing, and she saw no way of convincing him otherwise... She backed off. Quit, resigned from her position, despite how painful it was. And yet just like that, one word said, one admition, and she was back on the boat, however reluctant. It takes a lot to get through her outer shell, to really get to know her; she keeps herself as guarded as can be. She has to, what with her boss' addiction to the lime light. Pepper has always preferred to stay in the shadows, working from behind. It ties to her own limitations. She knows full well she'd never be able to live under the constant scrutiny to her person. She doesn't want to be known for anything other than being able to do her job as best as she can.
While Pepper is nothing but professional, that doesn't mean she's willing to do any job asked of her. However, it takes a certain kind of person to work for someone who both manufactures and distributes weapons and weapons technology. Yes, the moral is keeping their troops safe is there, but, especially after the events of Iron Man 1, to have Pepper still working as a part of Stark Industries is ... something else. Being in that sort of business means that yes, she has probably dealt with a number of disagreeable or even unprofessionally upset businessmen and women in her ten years. She can keep her work and personal life separate, and that, is what keeps her sane.
It would be the much of the same on the Barge. While Pepper may strongly dislike or disagree with someone or something on the ship, if it boils down to something that needs to get done? She'll get it done and be on her way. Then again, if it fights against her moral codes to such a degree that it puts someone's life in danger, especially someone she knows personally... Then anyone would be hard pressed to make her do much of anything. She quit her PA job on the spot because she thought Tony was going to kill himself. She couldn't help him do it. Not every part of a job can be done without a second thought.
That doesn't mean, however, that she won't be uncomfortable. She's good in a crisis, but only to a point. She knows well enough that while she might not be the one to run back into a burning building to save someone, she will do everything in her power to get someone more qualified to do the job for her. She has endless contacts and resources, something she's spent years collecting. Probably one of the first things she'd do on the Barge even, would be to set her feelers out, make connections, keep contacts, build allies. To have someone on call to assist in any way.
History: Here.
Sample Journal Entry:
[There's an air of professionalism that seems to radiate off the woman behind the lens. Jaw tensed, expression guarded... And yet her smile is warm, almost inviting. Almost. She's here for a reason.]
Inmates, wardens, everything in between; I'd like to take a moment to apologize for any actions, accounted for or otherwise, that my employer has .. inflicted. [Is that a good word for it? Yeah, sort of. Her eyes dart briefly off screen- to something or someone, a stern look flashing even more fleetingly. And then she's back.]
My name is Ms Potts, [This is formal after all, thanks to muchwhining insisting from her dear boss.] and on behalf of Mr. Stark; [She hesitates, glancing off once more, even more fleetingly peeved. Muttered words, unintelligable, muffle through the speaker. Background noise.]
He's sorry. [The ensuing ruckus is cut short by a quick flick of a switch.]
Sample RP:
There were moments where she only remembered the panic, utter terror she'd felt gripping at her as she watched the news from high in the sky. Iron Man having caught the nuke, flying it towards the portal that lead god knows where. And ... just like that, he'd been gone. She'd nearly flung her phone across the interior of the jet when she'd realized there was a single missed call from one Tony Stark. He'd tried to call her, to reach her, while he was in flight, and she'd been so wrapped up watching through a camera lens that she'd missed it. Why hadn't she taken the phone off vibrate? She was on a jet for god's sake.
So she'd sought out the Barge. Sought the Admiral, seen if he'd struck up a deal, could strike up a deal. She'd not heard word on Tony's status, and while it was possible he was still alive ... No one could ever hope to guess where in the universe he'd ended up. Could the suit even sustain oxygen in space? She tried to ignore the chill in her blood whenever she pondered such a thing. If the Admiral could help her, then she'd gladly offer her services as a Warden. Even if it just meant so she'd be able to keep an eye on Tony, be there for him. She could only imagine what sort of a mess he'd get into without her and--
But that had all been hypothetical. She'd been so adament that the man behind the suit couldn't be dead. Just missing. Just misplaced, thrown out of the window and lost somewhere in the universe. It hadn't been hard to ignore the few attempts to nullify her hopes. Everyone knew just how stubborn Pepper could be, how focused and determined to do something, that hell, maybe she'd pull it off.
And pull it off she did. She found the Admiral, struck a deal, signed herself up to be a Warden... All in the hopes of finding her brainless boss and telling him what for. She did not need to be scared senseless like that anymore.
Special Notes: She can run in heels. Over grate.
